Measuring tips:

  1. Please measure with the assistance of your friend, family member or preferably a tailor or seamstress.
  2. The person to be measured should wear corsetry and/or undergarments they plan to wear with their garment.
  3. Keep the tape taught, not too loose or too tight.
  4. Styles with sleeves require arm length, shoulder to wrist, bicep girth, shoulder to wherever the sleeve will hit on the arm.   Close-fitting styles, such as mermaids, etc require hip measurements.
  5. Please take the measurements with your shoes on.
  6. Relax!

About the " Shoulder to Hem" measurement:

This measurement is very important to ensure the correct skirt length of your dress.

If you need the skirt length to the floor, then you need to wear the same shoe height you will wear on your day and let the tape fall to where you want your hem to be.
If the skirt length is not to the floor but to the knee or over the knee, then you need provide the measurement  from shoulder to skirt hem with the exact skirt length you need.
  • Bust:  Take the tape around your back and bring it across your nipple line (typically the fullest part of the breast). Your arms should be relaxed, down at your sides.
  • Upper Bust:  Measure above your breasts in the same manner as you measured across them.
  • Lower Bust:  Measure under your breasts in the same manner as you measured across them.
  • Nipple to Nipple:  Bust point to bust point
  • Waist:  This is the smallest part of your waist. Typically it's an inch or so above your belly button.
  • Hips:  This is the widest part of your hips, across the hip bone.
  • Shoulder to Shoulder:  Measure from shoulder across to the other shoulder in the back.
  • Shoulder to Bust:  From the top of your shoulder down to bust point.
  • Shoulder to Waist:  Measure from the top of your shoulder down to waist.
  • Shoulder to hem:  Measure from Shoulder down to hem.
  • Stature:  Measure from top of your head down to floor with your shoes on.
  • Hollow To Hem:  From the area of your throat with the hollow, between your collar bones, to the floor with your shoes on.

This should be all the measurements you have plus any added for your style gown:

Please email them back to me at sales@bellinabridal.com, make sure you state if you had your wedding height shoes on at the time of measuring and if not what is the height of your heels.

Tape Placement:

Make sure you measure with the tape start point passing  from your shoulder through the bust.  Any questions, please feel free to contact me at:  sales@bellinabridal.com and I will be happy to assist you.

 Bustles:

If you require a bustle, please state so at the time of inquiry.  I will need to know this information, my dresses do not automatically come bustled.  Below is a picture of a gown bustled.

Questions

How long until my gown is finished?

Typically 3-4 months, from January to May, it may take up to 6 months depending on the design and detail and my calendar.  Please write me or call me for times, I can sometimes do RUSHES.

When will I see the pictures of my gown?

I will send pictures of your pattern to make sure everything is in place before we start to cut the fabric in about 2-3 weeks or so after we have made all the final choices together on your custom gown.  After the pattern is okayed by you, I will begin to make your gown.  Ill send photos along the way of beading, fabric, lace, etc, etc as needed.  I can also send you fabric samples, lace samples, beading samples, etc.

How will my gown arrive?

I ship your wedding gown in a sturdy cardboard box, in a nice white Bridal Garment Bag, perfect for hanging and storing your wedding gown, via Fedex with Tracking and Insurance included.

What shall I do to take the wrinkles out?

Sometimes there are some wrinkles due to your wedding gown being in a box for a little bit.  I highly recommend taking the gown to the Cleaners and having them steam it, try to find one who is knowledgeable in steaming wedding gowns.  I do not recommend steaming your wedding gown yourself, it is highly probable that you will get water spots on your gown which cannot be removed.

How does your payment plan work?

I will set up payments for you if you like on my site.  You can go there and make a payment whenever you like.  When you reach $500, I begin to make your custom wedding gown.  As soon as I get one payment, you are on my calendar so your space will be held.

As one of our Brides you will be offered free private phone consultations with Karen Caprio, the head designer and owner of Bellina Bridal. She will assist you in choosing the style and fabrics that suit you best, the design you wish to create or you may choose one of our designs.  She will work on your personal style, preferences, wedding venue and budget to make you your special dream, one of a kind gown.

To start the process of ordering your custom gown from Bellina Bridal, a deposit of $500 will be required to secure your spot. The Deposit will be taken off the total cost of your gown and is refundable upon cancellation in some cases, see our refund agreement. We then set up your first phone consultation or you may do this by email if you prefer.  We will go over your design, the fabrics, etc until we begin to get a design going.  We will hold as many phone consults or emails as needed to get your perfect gown designed.  We will provide you with a sketch of your design at this point if needed.

Next we will set up your measuring consult, this can be done by telephone.  We guide you through your list of measurements. The phone session will take around 30 to 45 minutes.

For the measuring session you will need the following:

  1. Someone who will take the measurements for you.
  2. Shoes the same height as the ones you will be wearing on your wedding.
  3. The undergarments you plan to wear at your wedding.
  4. A string or ribbon long enough to go around your waist.
  5. A flexible measuring tape.

How can you make a custom dress without fittings you ask.

We have an adjustable mannequin and make this mannequin look exactly like your body.  It is just as if we were sewing it on your body, and it assures a perfect fit every time.  In some instances you may need a few alterations but they are more than likely extremely minimal compared to a store bought gown.  You will be responsible for any final alterations if needed.

The date you plan to receive your dress should be at least one month before your wedding date.  We will not be able to guarantee our dress if this is not the case. Please allow at least 4-6 months to receive your gown after your measuring session, as this is the final step in your gown design.  You will receive pictures along the way of your pattern, beading, etc.  Final pictures will be sent to you for your approval. Final payment can be made at this time and shipping arrangements will be made.  We ship Fedex, always insured.  International shipping may be wither Fedex or USPS.
